On rewarding soldiers for their service:

In the wake of the recent midterm elections in which the Democrats won control of Congress, many analysts are suggesting that the political shift will result in a corresponding shift in policy regarding the war in Iraq, perhaps including the withdrawal of American troops. As the fate of the U.S. war effort is decided by our newly elected public officials, we must remember the contributions of the many military personnel who have already devoted their time—and, in many cases, their lives—to this cause, and do our best to reward them for their service, as Elizabeth I did for her own soldiers when she said:

“You have deserved rewards and crowns; and we do assure you, in the words of a prince, they shall be duly paid you.”
